Nearby on land was a small shed. To my shock, it was actually unlocked, and that's where this picture was taken from. There was a table, some metal folding chairs, and even some space heaters and electrical outlets. To get from the shed to the end of the pier was a good few minute long walk, so I didn’t want to spend too much time in there. I wanted to see the SS United States as she rounded the corner. So every once in a while, I’d hide in the shed for 10 or 15 minutes to warm up a bit. If not for that shed, I might have gotten frostbite. I have a vague memory of telling someone about the shed and that it was unlocked. Something is telling me it was Anne Marie or Carol, because I remember being very friendly and comfortable with this person as if I’d met them before. I actually told a few people about the shed, but this one sticks out in my mind. One guy was there before me, but he left not long after, assuming that he must have missed the SS United States. It was at the time of this picture that I realized something special was about to happen. The sun was setting, and the sky had begun to take on a delightful orange hue. I can see some great sunsets from my house, so I have a pretty good idea of how quickly and drastically they change. I hoped desperately that the SS United States would pass us during the best part of the sunset.
